| Molds are a necessary part of nature to decompose dead organic material such as leaves, wood and other plant material. When mold grows in our homes it feeds on similar organic materials. Unfortunately mold can cause health problems. Medical studies have found that mold and mildew are a significant cause of allergic symptoms. There are diverse opinions as to the significance of mold in your home and what should be done if it is there. There are many things we should know about molds. Molds can only grow if there is moisture present. An ASHI Home Inspection will discover the visible moisture, its source and recommend what you should to do to stop the moisture to stop the growth of molds. Sometimes the mold is hidden. It could be in the walls, floors or heating ducts where there may unseen moisture. Sometimes it may be necessary to sample areas where we can't see well to determine the presents of mold with swab and air samples. But only if there is moisture. Should we decide that sampling would be helpful, we are certified to provide the sampling of: Any visible suspected area using swab sampling technology Air sampling for spore detection Non destructive carpet sampling When the analysis by PRO-LAB is completed, the test results are reviewed by an Industrial Hygienist who summarizes the possible hazards and recommends appropriate actions. The reports are electronically forwarded to Sky-Line Home Inspections usually within 48 hours. The cost of mold testing can be expensive. However the cost may well be worth it to peace of mind.
